The Argentine government has formalized a further reduction in export duties applicable to grains and byproducts through Decree No. 423/2026. This measure is part of a strategy aimed at reducing the tax burden on the agribusiness sector and providing greater predictability for operators across the various production chains.
In the case of wheat and barley, the decree establishes a two-percentage-point reduction in export duties, which took effect on June 4, 2026. According to the government, this measure seeks to improve the competitiveness of both crops and encourage planting decisions for the upcoming season.
For soybeans, corn, sunflower, and sorghum, as well as their respective by-products, a schedule for the progressive reduction of export duties has been defined, to be implemented between January 2027 and December 2028. In the case of soybeans and their derivatives, the scheme foresees a monthly decrease of 0.25 percentage points starting in January 2027, which will increase to 0.5 percentage points per month from January 2028.
The regulations also allow for the registration of Sworn Declarations of Foreign Sales (DJVE) for shipments destined for destinations from January 2027 onwards, applying the new reduced rates. This will facilitate business planning and allow for the closing of future deals without having to wait for each reduction to take effect.
On the other hand, the decree establishes a 0% tax rate for biodiesel produced from alternative oils such as safflower, rapeseed, carinata, and camelina. With this measure, the government aims to promote new value chains linked to biofuels, including the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), a segment considered to have growth potential in the coming years.
